Sister Aaron Winkelman, Chief Steward
Sister Aaron has a long history with Dominican. She did all of her undergraduate work at Dominican College. Shortly after completing her BA there, she entered the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, then started teaching in several Congregational high schools. Next she went on for graduate studies. In 1986, after completing her doctorate in English from UCLA, she came to Dominican as fulltime faculty and taught in the English, G.E., and Graduate Humanities programs. About 2011 she retired as fulltime faculty and continued teaching as Adjunct faculty. In 2014 when the Adjuncts began to consider unionizing, Sister Aaron became aware of the great need for improvement in compensation and working conditions. She sees unionizing as a means of social justice, not only for adjunct faculty but also for working class people throughout the nation. Sister Aaron served on our first Bargaining Team and then on the Implementation team. Currently she serves as a member of the Chapter Board as Chief Steward and also as a member of the Labor Management Committee.
