Dear Colleagues,
We have a lot of news to share with you – please read on!
Elections
Our union needs officers! Our recently approved Bylaws require that we hold elections for the following positions: President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, COPE Coordinator/Delegate, Chief Steward, 4 Stewards and 2 Labor-Management Committee members. If you would like to learn more about being a union steward, check out these opportunities for training:

The election committee is forming and still in need of 1-2 additional volunteers before elections can be held. Please consider this essential role! It would be a great service to our fledgling union and should not require very much time. Contact our Union Representative: [email protected] if you are able to serve on this committee. Adjuncts on this committee should not be candidates for office.
We have a fund of $10,000 for Merit Awards for Adjunct Faculty
“With great power comes great responsibility”, said Spiderman’s uncle. In addition to an election committee, we also need a few adjuncts to serve on a very important committee to dispense Merit Awards. Adjuncts who have published an article in a peer-reviewed journal, authored a textbook section, given a performance or presented at a conference are eligible to apply for a Merit Award. This committee will review applications and approve funding of up to $1000 per adjunct. Please see Article 12, page 19 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for a complete list of activities that are eligible for these funds: https://sites.google.com/a/dominican.edu/dominican-collective-bargaining-agreement-2016-2019/, and consider helping with this vital task.
General Membership Meetings Coming Soon!
In person, online, lunch or evening time - we have a series of meetings planned and we hope that one of these days and times will work for you! Come meet fellow adjuncts and our new SEIU Representative Diego Santelices, discuss important issues and sign up for full membership. To nominate, run for and hold an elected position, and vote, one must be a full member. Here are the dates; stay tuned for the agenda.
Tuesday, February 28, 5:00 to 6:30 PM, Meadowlands 134
Wednesday, March 1, 7:00 to 8:30 PM (online attendance possible for this meeting) physical meeting place TBA
Thursday, March 2, 12:15 to 1:30 PM, Meadowlands 134
Brown Bag on Course Evaluations – February 14, 12:00-1:00 pm, Guzman Room 302
The Sub-Committee on Faculty Course Evaluations invites input from all faculty on the proposed faculty course evaluation system.
Let’s Do Lunch – A Few More Times!
Last fall we held a series of informal lunches in the newly renovated Faculty/Staff Dining Room. We have three more lunches planned for this semester from 12:30 to 1:30 Pm on the following dates:
Thursday, February 23; Wednesday March 22 and Tuesday, April 18 - Mark your calendars and hope to see you in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room.
Our union is what we make it. One benefit of unionizing has been the opportunity to meet many of our fellow adjuncts. This is not only good for our union but ultimately benefits DU and our students as we forge stronger connections!
As always, contact us with your questions or comments.
In unity,
Sister Aaron Winkelman
