Dear Colleagues,
There is a lot to report so please read on!
Effects Bargaining
Beginning in Fall 2018 major changes to the curriculum will result in adverse effects for adjuncts. The reality for many adjuncts will be fewer units, fewer classes or no classes at all. Your Union Chapter Board is currently in negotiations with Administration over these effects. At our bargaining session on January 19, we presented a proposal to mitigate some of the harm that Admin’s decision is sure to create for many of us. Included in our proposal is preserving incumbency and seniority for adjuncts as GE classes are redesigned, payment for lost classes and preservation of health benefits for adjuncts who currently qualify. We expect a response to our proposal at our next bargaining session on February 16.
This is what you can do right now to strengthen the voice and power of your Chapter Board during Effects Bargaining for the good of all the adjuncts:

Full Membership in our Union
There is a difference between being a fee payer and a member of a union. We all pay some form of union dues to cover the costs of representation and bargaining expertise as well as numerous benefits that SEIU provides (check out the Benefits page). By becoming a full member you have access to all that our union has to offer and our voice grows stronger. Please click the link below to sign up for membership. Contact our Chief Steward, Sister Aaron Winkelman with any questions.

General Membership Meetings - Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, February 13
5:00 to 6:30 PM, Magnolia Board Room - Refreshments served.
Join fellow adjuncts as we discuss upcoming changes in GE, majors and curriculum and the effects on adjuncts that these changes will bring about. We will provide updates on Effects Bargaining and share other important information about our union. This is also a chance to ask questions, share your concerns and to meet your adjunct colleagues. Call-in for both meetings is possible. Please contact Dan Carraher for call-in information.
Let’s Have Lunch
For informal meetings with colleagues, please join us for lunch in Caleruega on any or all of these dates: Tuesday, February 20, Wednesday, March 14 and Thursday, April 5 and Monday, April 23. All lunches are in the Faculty-Staff Dining Room at 12:15 PM.
Working Together
The changes to come are certain to prove a heavy blow for our adjunct faculty. Without a union we would have no choice but to simply accept our fate. Our union gives us a voice and the opportunity to work for better outcomes for ourselves and for the students that we serve. We have accomplished so much together! Please come to a meeting, leave a comment on the blog, call or email your union reps. We must make sure that adjuncts are not forgotten as these extraordinary changes are implemented.
You are not alone and we are all stronger together!
In unity,
Your Dominican University Chapter Board
Dan Carraher, President
Robin McCloskey, Vice-President
Bobby Bradford, Secretary-Treasurer
Sister Aaron Winkelman, Chief Steward
