We had several exciting things happen this week!
Monday – Sr Aaron Winkelman and Dan Carraher introduced new Adjuncts to the Dominican Adjunct Faculty Union!! The new Adjuncts had great questions and expressed enthusiasm and support, especially those with previous experience or current experience with unions. If you are a new Adjunct, and missed that introduction, we invite you to connect with a member of the Implementation Team (e-mails/phone below) to learn additional information or get your questions answered.
We continue to meet with Administration ironing out details of point totals, multi-year contracts, and class assignments.
Tuesday, we connected with some of you who attended the Faculty Retreat. Welcome back! Surprisingly enough, the topic included how to involve Adjuncts in the shared governance process. The conversation has begun…at a new level! We will have the opportunity to explore this further at our first General Membership Meetings scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, 9/21 and 9/22, 5-7.
Lastly, we invite you to attend the Steward Training on Friday morning 10-12 in Oakland. What is Steward Training? First, it is an opportunity to connect with other committed (or possibly curious) Adjuncts and learn what the role of the Steward will be at Dominican. Second, showing up for training does no obligate you to be a steward…but it is a great way to learn about it. Third? This may be your first opportunity to join with other like minded Adjuncts serving the community, or perhaps you have continued to support the movement from day one or throughout this past year. Whatever your level of commitment or even curiosity is at the moment, take advantage of this opportunity to join a great team! If you intend on attending, contact Jessica Lawless for details.
See you around the classroom!
