By now you have probably read the email from Nicola Pitchford (sent by Tammy Carl on March 20) announcing the decision by our Administration to change the way that we are compensated. If you have not yet read this email, we urge you to do so.
In a nutshell, starting with the Fall semester, 2019, adjuncts will be required to log our hours through a system already in use by our work-study students called Work Day. Administration is instituting these changes because they worry that by not doing so, they may be in violation of California labor law.
Coupled with the fact that many of us are losing classes with the restructured curriculum, next year promises to be a difficult one for adjuncts.
The Administration bargaining team has represented that they do not anticipate that the new system will result in a reduction of pay for teaching; however, they have yet to offer us any details to review. Like you, we have many questions and concerns.
We will hold several General Membership Meetings for discussion - the first is this Thursday, March 28.
Please leave a comment, and come to a meeting!
Your voice matters and we are stronger when we work together.
